People with Emotional Intelligence aren’t great at spotting dishonesty, a paper published recently in the journal Legal and Criminological Psychology shows.
The barrier of Downward Focus is caused by traits that people want to hide – including dishonesty. Unsurprisingly, it’s the hardest barrier to identify – particularly for those who are less inclined to have Downward Focus traits themselves.
Sometimes to break our own barriers we need to maintain boundaries.
Trusting oneself is a good place to start – particularly the gut response.
But double checking our response is wise.
