There’s widespread and justifiable concern that young people aren’t getting the right skills needed in today’s world – the soft skills.
But do adults possess these skills enough to pass them on?
Research by YouGov shows that it’s common practice for companies not to send young people an acknowledgment that their job application’s been received, or any notification that their application was unsuccessful.
OK, this behaviour may be nothing new. But surely the courtesy of a reply – the most basic of communication skills – ought to be common practice. And, given the available technology, how much time or money would it cost?
What message does this behaviour convey? Disrespect, disregard, disinterest…yes, a lot of ‘dissing’.
If organisations want applicants with people skills they need to model these skills themselves.
