When all the old promises have proved to be hollow, when incentives are tied to a long-term service that no long exists, when rewards are for tenure that’s tenuous…how do leaders start to rebuild trust with employees?
But then employees no longer promise to stick around…
especially if the leader bullies them or lies to them.
Leaders can’t force employees to engage; employees can’t rely on leaders to nurture.
The old way of doing business isn’t working anyone anymore.
So let’s accept it’s all different, behave like equals in this relationship, and drop the let’s pretend…
no more promises that can’t be kept.
