Sunshine at last here in London! Without wanting to cast a shadow on this, there have been a couple of articles this week that resonated with the recent post about toxic work culture.
One focuses on domestic violence, an area that “for too many remains a taboo” says Stephan Bevan of the Work Foundation. If strategy is only concerned with obvious, easy to address, workforce health issues it misses the threats that cause much deeper damage.
And then there’s the matter of trust; in a report from the CIPD, it’s revealed that only 36% of workers trust their senior leaders. Perhaps, given the plethora of unethical shenanigans that leaders have shown themselves capable of lately, this percentage is surprisingly high. But it demonstrates, yet again, how ‘shadow’ behaviour negatively impacts employee wellbeing, the health of the organisations and, ultimately, the bottom line.
Organisations need to let the sunshine in.
