According to Harvard professor Barbara Kellerman, the evidence for success in the leadership industry is “scant” . The problem?
A central one, according to Kellerman, is that:
we expect to get rather spectacular results in a very short period of time
The leadership industry is based on short-term training or development.
But as with any skill – think “swimming or piano playing” says Kellerman – leadership cannot be taught quickly and easily…
And there needs to be a lot of practice involved.
When we reduce our concepts to a sound bite,
our concentration to five minutes,
and our training to a quick-fix,
the evidence is mounting that we just waste our time.
