Youth not prepared to work

  • May 25, 2012

It’s not that the work isn’t there – they’re just not prepared to do it, reports out this week say of young people.

The reason? Lack of soft skills.

Why are they not prepared?

1) Greater need for soft skills + 2) education system not concerned with soft skills + 3) getting less soft skills development outside school

From a local study by the Chambers of Commerce, to the opinion of one of the country’s largest employers that 80% of young Scots are unemployable; from the concerns of major employers setting up the Learning to Work initiative, to the recent Work Foundation report showing how a major shift in the labour market has caused a mismatch between the soft skills needed for work, and the skills of the young people without jobs…the evidence is clear.

roadUnless things change, there will be problems down the road.

Testimonials

I found working with Barrier Breakers to be an entirely positive experience. Content, planning, presentation - all brilliant! I have no hesitation in recommending them. The advantage that BBM has over other methods is that it does not limit people within a classification and is context based, enabling each learner to be measured in terms of their individual progress rather than in a competitive environment.
